Trouble Swapping Router Connected to Cable Modem

I *think* there may be a problem with my Nest router that is connected to my cable modem and so I'm trying to troubleshoot it by swapping it with another router that I've already setup on my network - the other routers are setup as points of course. The problem is, none of my other routers will see the internet when I connect them to my cable modem, and so my network goes down if I try to swap them. I swap in another one, wait for it to power up, but the network never comes back online, so I have to revert back to the one I'm trying to troubleshoot. How do I swap out the router that is connected to my cable modem on an existing network?

To test a different puck as main, it must first be factory reset, then set up from scratch in a new Google Home home, unless you factory reset your whole existing network.
