Nest WIFI router (H2D) appears to throttle both wifi and wired data speeds?

I have a 300Mbps fiber optic internet service and a H2D Nest wifi router. I am having trouble with the Nest WIFI, which appears to be throttling my data speed to 80Mbps. I have conducted the following test while only having a single device at a time connected to the router LAN port or WIFI:

1) If I connect my PC directly to the fiber optic gateway device with an ethernet cable, the PC will get 300 Mbps download.

2) If I plug in an old router to the fiber optic gateway device and to my PC, the PC will get 300 Mbps download.

3) If I plug in the Nest router into the fiber optic gateway device, the speed test on the Goolge Home app will show 300 Mbps download to the router.

However, if I run a speed test on any of my PCs or devices connected to the Nest router's ethernet port, I will get ~80 Mbps on the device (using the same ethernet cables I used in the above tests.) I also get ~80 Mbps on any device when connected to the Nest wifi if the device is connected to the 2.4 Ghz signal. I can sometimes get much better download speeds if I can manage to force a device to the 5 Ghz signal, but because you cannot name or disable the 2.4 and 5 Ghz signals, most devices will end up on the 2.4 Ghz signal.

If I reboot the router, or if I unplug and re-plug the router to the fiber optic gateway, I can sometimes get the full 300 Mpbs down on any device connected to the router, but that only seems to last a few minuets or hours before it goes back to most devices getting only ~80 Mbps.

Any ideas on what to do?

I have this same issue in my warehouse but a little different. I can get 5g connection over iphone with wifi at 300mpbs but if I move upstairs where it might use the mesh point, it drops down to 120mb max. So I did a little test here at another location where not using google wifi but spectrum wifi box they provide. At 5g I am getting 350mbps but when I switched to 2.4 it dropped to 85mpbs. No change in distance so that didn't cause anything. No changes other than than band from 2.4 to 5. I have a feeling google wifi is intermixing the 2.4 and 5g radio bands with some algorithm that is trying to maximize distance trade offs to get most coverage while sacrificing some speed to do it. I had spectrum come out and test the line, the modem, and it was none of that. We isolated it to be google nest wifi. So this mesh system is negotiating this automatically which is why you cannot change it to fixed position. They are doing it for you. The way to prove this is to get another wifi mesh like TPLINK deco9 and set it up and switch to just 5g and see if you can strong signal to carry that band. If so, then you isolated the issue that google wifi is the problem.

Have you tried running a speed test within the App? often after a software update, it will be throttled until you run the speed test in the app

Thanks for the input so far. Here is a reply to the questions you asked:

How often does this issue occur? Does this happen continuously or intermittently?
This issue occurs continuously, with a very consistent max speed of ~80 mbps.

What's the lot area of your home?
The house is small and I get a good signal strength in each room but the speed issue is the same no matter how close or far from the wifi router and apply to devices plugged into the LAN port.

How many devices actively use the internet at one time?
There are three people living in the house, one who is a toddler. We typically are only using 1 chrome cast or computer at a time. The internet lag is noticeable on a PC that has the 80 mbps speed when compared to a PC that is getting the full 300, even with only 1 device being used at a time.

I have been able to get 300 mbps consistently on a computer by disabling the 2.4g wifi signal on the PC forcing it to stay on the 5g wifi signal. It will go back to 80 mbps if I plug the computer into the LAN port.

Unfortunately I have devices that do not have a way to force 5g so they have effectively been "throttled" to the 80 mbps max speed.

Yeah I have been running speed tests on the Home app and on devices each day to see if anything changes, but this problem has been consistent so far, about 2 months now.

Open the Google Home app .
Tap Wi-Fi and then Settings and then Preferred activities.

I verified that my Wifi App did not have any preferred activities or devices selected. I have attached an image of this speed test. The first run of the speed test was completed while plugged into the router Lan port, the other is a speed test one minute later when the computer was on the 5g wifi signal to demonstrate the issue.

Thanks for the response. To isolate the issue, could you try changing the DNS on the Google Home app? Here's how:

Open the Google Home app.
Tap Wi-Fi > Settings > Advanced Networking.
Tap DNS.
Select Custom and enter “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”.
Tap Save.

I tried the DNS change but no difference in speed tests

I will restart the modem and router and try again, then upload the speed test.

Here is the speed test after that change to the DNS, no difference. The 5ghz connection has max speed (top result) but the 2.4 and wired speed are still maxing out around 80-90mbs upload and download.

I tried a factory reset, then got the same results. I did another factory reset and said no to the optional choices during the setup, got the same results.
