Why isn't there a WPS button on the new nest WiFi pro router? Can the Google Home app be used as a software WPS button?

There is no WPS option with Nest WiFi Pro. WPS is a pretty insecure solution.
Why do you need the WPS functionality? Is this because of WiFi printer? 🙂

Wireless printer and a Samsung TV that refuses to accept the SSID and password that I've set up. WPS has been an easy way to set up devices historically. I'm perplexed that if it was insecure, why is it on almost every WiFi device. Why not make it more secure across the industry, rather than giving up on it

Hi @KevHep

To be honest newer devices don't have WPS anymore because of the reason it is insecure.
A big vulnerability was found back in 2011.
Check out the Wikipedia website for example.

So my guess is that the devices you are trying to connect are not very recent which can cause issues with the new Nest WiFi Pro technology like WiFi6. Did you enable WPA3 by any chance?

Please check if this is disabled: Settings --> Advanced networking --> Use Wi-Fi protected access 3

As mentioned by the others, WPS is not supported on the Nest WiFi Pro due to security issues and compatibility. I just wanted to check in and see if there were any other questions you might have. If so, let me know.

I've managed to get the printer connected. The Samsung TV is a Q60T. it's about 3 to 4 years old. Forgive my memory 😃 I've tried it with wpa3 on and off. I've also tried different versions of wireless encryption wpa 2 mixed and wpa 2 aes but it isn't happy at all. Does anyone have any other ideas before I speak to Samsung? Thanks

For non-Google devices, you might run into some here that have a shared experience, but you're usually going to get the quickest response from the support teams for that device. Hopefully someone chimes in here, but it might be a good idea to contact Samsung to get their input as well. Let us know what you find out.

Hi Jeff. Samsung state that support should be provided for legacy devices by yourselves. I've gone back to them to advise the router is backward compatible. Is there anything else I need to advise them? The only information they ask for when connecting is the SSID and password and then the encryption type. I'm using WPA2 AES. Is there anything else I can pass onto them that you can think of?

A quick question please. I have a Canon MX475 printer have been trying to find an alternative since the new Google Nest does not have any WPS button, can somebody suggest a way out of this dilemma!
