ERR_CONNECTION_RESET on wifi pro, worked fine on 1st gen google wifi

I'm getting inconsistent errors in chrome on my two windows laptops (work security) on the new network, some web pages load slowly, and others simply error out to ERR_CONNECTION_RESET.

I've changed the DNS service to both google and Cloudflare (ip4 and ip6) at both the computer and network levels, but am getting intermittent issues ERR_CONNECTION_RESET.

also getting very inconsistent speed tests from the device (800down, 50 up) where the att device shows 800+ up and down.

now the device speed test doesnt even work.

If you're getting lots of DNS issues like "err_connection_closed" or extremely long loading times when trying to use chrome or other browsers after upgrading to Nest WiFi Pro, try setting the router's DNS services to a manual like Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 for both ipv4 and ipv6 (https://1.1.1.1/). it took me a couple of days of poking around to figure it out. It's likely a combination of the new router DNS services and my work laptop's security settings, but after setting each network adapter on computers and the router and flushing the DNS settings, it seems to be working much better.

None of the IOS devices or MacOS devices on the network experienced this,

Three things to add regarding setting a custom DNS server:

If setting a custom DNS IP you have to be wary of services and devices you run and that it can cause issues. There are a lot of streaming, gaming, and other services that have had issues when Cloudflares DNS was set on the router affecting the full range of issues; and this has happened with all custom DNS IPs regardless the provider. A search on any of the services' support pages should help you determine if you cannot use a particular DNS server IP.
Make sure to set the IPv6 IP also. You might not use it now but will before you know it. With IPv4 addresses running out, more are adopting IPv6 as the standard for their sites and setting dates for IPv4 turn off.
Be mindful that your ISP may block traffic if you set a custom DNS and not use theirs or even reassign the traffic through theirs anyways. ISPs are moving away from this slowly since it is one less service they have to deal with internally which cuts costs.

The issue is likely the DNS settings. You are using two different DNS servers. Plus, Cloudflare DNS is not compatible with other devices in every case. Change the setting for BOTH IPv4 and IPv6 to the Google DNS settings only using the below. You can change your computer to "automatic" unless you use it outside your home network.

Hey there,

@bobacct, are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

ok. i factory reset my att device and the nest wifi pro, set up the wifi pro per the app instructions (still inconsistent internet website resolutions) then followed the instructions here to run passthrough:

My connections are all wired backhaul, and i've been experiencing isses on both wired and wireless connections.

there are no special characters in network name or password.

IPv6 is turned off.

DNS has been configured for googles (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4).

i have sacrificed the goat in the pentagram and called the corners.

things APPEAR to be better.

now we wait and see.

Still intermittently experiencing the same issue, now my nest hun max nest cam integration is failing as well. Unclear if it’s related but wouldn’t surprise me. It’s like the dns gets stuck/doesn’t resolve.

I suggest you factory reset your network and setup using the same network name and password so your devices can reconnect once the setup is complete.

thanks for this. frankly, I've given up on the nest wifi ecosystem and am returning the hardware. The day one setting that is missing is a network bridge mode that turns off nest's DHCP and other network systems and just acts like a wifi bridge. the average user shouldn't need to be a network admin to get your product to work.
