Upgraded to Nest Wi-Fi Pro - cannot access port forwarded NVR on local network

Upgraded from Nest Wi-Fi to Pro.

To access Lorex NVR have port forwarding setup. This worked OK with nest Wi-Fi setup over the years.

Completed the same port forwarding on Nest Pro. Cannot access the NVR anymore from devices within same local network. Meaning if I have my Wi-Fi enabled on my iPhone, I cannot access the NVR but if I disable the Wi-Fi and access the NVR via cell service or VPN, it works.

It seems that devices with local IP address (on Wi-Fi) cannot access this port forwarded NVR.

Please suggest options to resolve.

Hey @sam8599 .

The below article should help to make sure the port forwarding is set up correctly:

Port forwarding or port opening

NOTE: The Lorex NVR recorder, or the device you are trying to connect to, has to be assigned a static IP in teh Home app for the port forwarding to work. Check to make sure that the device doesn't have a static IP in the settings as well and update if needed to the one you are assigning it to in the Home app.

So I understand correctly - "device doesn't have a static IP in the settings as well".. so I should set the NVR to DHCP? In Home app I already have DHCP IP reservation > static IP for NVR and port forwarding to the same static IP.

Sorry, I was referring to checking the settings on the NVR itself with that statement. Some devices like the NVR are also statically set an IP address in their settings menu as well. If that IP address doesn't match the one you assigned to it in the Home app, it will also prevent connection to the NVR.

I have the same settings on NVR as was on old nest Wi-Fi. Have made the same setup of IP reservation and Port forwarding on Wi-Fi pro and does not work. Workaround I have to enable VPN/One package and then works as IP is not LAN.

Try the below to see if it allows the LAN connection:

Turn off 160MHz
Disable IPv6
Disable WPA3
Verify port forwarding settings by checking the Lomax NVR documentation and the Nest Pro settings

Confirmed settings as suggested

Turn off 160MHz
Disable IPv6
Disable WPA3

Still does not work. If I access the same setup with VPN enabled then all works OK. Hopefully this gives a clue to how to make this to work?

Thanks for the additional information @sam8599 .

This points to a configuration issue on one or both of the devices. I did some digging and found these things that should be checked per Lomax. While you set up the new Nest Wifi Pro the same as the previous one, it doesn't mean that there isn't a configuration that needs to be updated after the change. Here's articles from Lomax that should help with troubleshooting. I'd also recommend checking Lomax's support page for issues that may be specific to your iPhone/iPhone app, especially if it is the only one unable to connect to it in any way.

Check firewall settings and logs to make sure it isn't blocking the LAN connection to the new Nest Wifi Pro
Networking: DVR / NVR system won't connect to the Internet
Networking: DVR / NVR system won't connect to a Local Area Network (LAN)
Remote Viewing: Cannot connect to DVR / NVR after changing ISP
Port Forwarding: Setup

It did not. Going to live with issue. Workaround is that luckily have VPN with Google one storage. Have tried but no luck

Disable IPv6
Disable WPA3

Other continued issue

dropped team meeting calls
I am on Xfinity 1Gig plan.. continuously get no more than 630-650 Mbps download

It continues to work (can access) with VPN enabled on wifi and on cellular. This confirms that issue is with Nest Pro Wifi router. Hopefully Google Engineers do read these posts/feedback and correct these issues.
