About a week ago my internet was in and out. ISP was having some speed issues. From being down to average 20-30 Mbps. I have 200 and it has usually been consistent. Its back up and consistent now. Since then I have noticed some issues with my Nest Wifi. A few identified so far are our Nintendo Switches will no longer connect to the network and we're having issues viewing our feed on Instagram. Also some YouTube streaming issues as well. If I turn on my phone VPN I can view Instagram fine or if I turn off my Wifi it works as well. Even on other Wifi it works. So it leads me to believe something has changed or is going on with my Nest Wifi. Any suggestions?

Hey Gangstarr937,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Hello,

I do not have a modem/router combo. I have Google wifi. Parent and children. I do not have any devices paused. I've tried everything you have suggested other than the reset. I'm was holding off on doing that as a last resort. With the suggest actions I was able to get Instagram app to work. Now the only this is our two Nintendo switch devices. Neither will connect.

Hi Gangstarr937,

To clarify, do you have fiber-optic internet with your Internet Service Provider?

Regards,
Abi

It's not fiber and we have Breezeline. I was just able to get it to work by using DNS 1.1.1.1

For some reason 8.8.8.8 was hanging the two switches up for some reason.

Hey Gangstarr937,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Best,
Abi
