Nest wifi pro slow speeds and lots of buffering

I am getting frequent buffering and low speeds when streaming video with the Nest Wifi pro, the nest shows a strong internet connection, and the meshing test also shows that the connections are strong.

I never had these issues with the original nest wifi hub.

Are there more patches coming? Is this product bad?

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Did you try restarting the devices to see if this resolved the issue? With my own setup things worked way better since I enable WPA3.

Maybe worth a shot?

Like you, I came to the Nest Pro as an upgrade to my previous three router Nest mesh setup.I have 1Gbps up and down fiber Internet service. You will probably notice that I have several other posts on here regarding all of the issues I have had with the Pro, even though I was having NONE of the issues with the previous hardware. Yes, I am now convinced that there are both hardware and software issues with the new Pro routers, and I won’t be surprised to see the sales of this new product stopped very soon. I can’t believe that the return rate on this product is not at least 50%. And Google doesn’t seem to be that “responsive” to these issues. The Google Home app was updated today, and that did not fix the Speed Test, which is a known bug. They say the speed test doesn’t affect the system “operation” yet I’m getting speeds that are less than half the previous speeds I got with the previous Nest hardware, and the nodes are HOT…..by actual measurement from several people on this site over 130 degree surface temperatures. Without a cooling fan I can’t imagine what the internal temps are, and it may in fact be high temperatures at the CPU that are causing the throttling. Even though the mesh connection reports a “great connection” between nodes, streaming results in spinning “buffering” circles at least every 10 minutes. No one is more sorry than I am for having all these problems since I have virtually the entire Google ecosystem (thermostats, smoke detectors, door locks, speakers, displays, etc.) The Mesh system is what drives the whole thing. With the original Google mesh, and then the Nest Mesh my system was stable and worked just fine. Only upgrading the three mesh nodes to Nest Pro, my system is unstable and unusable. And I’m sorry.

Yes I have tried the above suggestion (..."Did you try restarting the devices to see if this resolved the issue"). Have also tried a factory reset and "clean" setup on three occasions, enabling and disabling WPA3 and 160 bandwidth. None of those things made any difference in my case.

Heh…..it’s not on any firmware version. I returned it and got an Orbi. I’ve had no problems since. Sorry, but the truth. Got tired of being a beta tester for Nest at my expense.

I'm having a similar issue with buffering and choppy streaming for video services and my phone cannot cast to my Chromecast at all because it's very choppy and then disconnects. I'm coming from the old Google mesh router and didn't have these issues.

Hey Arbane408,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.
