I regularly restart by modem and router to improve performance of both. Is there any difference in unplugging both at the same time, then plugging in modem and waiting for it to get online, then plugging in Nest compared to leaving the Nest plugged in and doing a Nest restart via the app? I am under the impression that only a removal of power is a total restart since no electronic restart ever rids any device of all the collected garbage.

Hi 808IUFan,

Thanks for posting. Here’s the main difference between the two troubleshooting steps you mentioned:

When you reboot both your modem and router, that’s called a Power Cycle. We suggest unplugging the modem for at least 2 minutes, plug it back in and wait until it’s online before you plug in your main Google Wifi router again. We normally do this as an initial troubleshooting step.

When you restart your network from the Google Home app, it only restarts your network and doesn’t affect your modem at all.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I’ll be happy to answer them for you.

Best,

Sure I still have concerns. Mystery devices keep showing up and I know others around me can not connect to my wifi. Also devices that I have gotten rid of can only be removed by factory resetting my Nest Wi-Fi Pro. That is 100% lame. We should be in TOTAL control of what we see, especially since it is in the trash someplace on this earth and still shows in my list of devices. Other than that, no concerns.

Hey 808IUFan,

Currently, devices that haven't connected to your network and are grayed out in your list will drop off the list after 60 days of continued inactivity. So even if you can't edit the list right now, it will maintain itself over time. Still, If you don’t want to see your old devices from your list, your option is to factory reset your network. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I also suggest that you send feedback by following this link. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
