Appears to be a frequent thread but posting my issue with hopes of a solution before ditching the Nest for another brand.

I have (2) Nest Wifi routers as my home mesh network setup. The node directly connected to my modem works without issue but the second node goes offline multiple times each day and must be power cycled to work for a short while again. While the problem node shows as disconnected, it unfortunately maintains endpoint device connections which show as connected to Wi-Fi but cannot reach the internet until said node is rebooted or mercifully left unplugged.

I've had this setup for over a year and it worked fine up until a few months ago. No amount of moving the access point to other locations resolves the issue. I suspect a firmware update introduced the problem but have no way to verify or rollback.

A factory reset was performed as a fun futile exercise but provided no positive result. If no solution is found my next step is to repeatedly roll the device up and down the hallway and let the new puppy attack the worthless PoS router. His name is Hacker after all.

Hi,

I have 3 x nest Wi-Fi routers purchased before Christmas and experiencing the same problem you describe. Hopefully there is a solution as it seems there are lots of posts about this?

Hey folks,

@BillIT, thanks for posting. My apologies for the late response. I’d like to check if you’re still having issues with your Nest Wifi router acting as a point.

@Foxdene, I’m sorry to hear you’re also having this issue. Please try the steps below:

Make sure any offline Wifi devices are powered on and that all cables are secure. If your device is hardwired, check that your Ethernet cables are correctly connected to another Wifi point or switch. Learn more about how to set up hardwired devices.

Unplug the Wifi device that is offline and plug it back in.

Open the Google Home app > touch and hold your device's tile > Settings > Restart Wifi point.

Perform a mesh test to confirm your devices are working properly.

Check that your points are within range of your router or primary Wifi point. You might need to move the point closer towards your router or another mesh point.

Run a mesh test again.

Factory reset your offline device, wait until the light indicates that your device is ready to set up, then add your Google Nest Wifi point or additional router or Google Wifi point again.

Let me know how it goes. I’ll wait for your update.

Best,
Abi

Hi Abi,

I am moving to another isp on Friday, so I'll go through your suggestions when I have their router connected. The current issue that I have is always rectified by power on/off the affected nest router, but it's not good when it happens.

I will reply again once I have completed your suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi @AbigailF

Yes, I do still have the issue. My current approach is to keep the secondary node powered off and just depend on the single Nest node directly connected to my modem. This obviously defeats the purpose of purchasing the second node in the first place and leaves many weak connection points in my home; active router is on the 2nd floor with my modem, leaving connected devices on the first floor and basement with spotty connections.

Hello everyone,

I appreciate the assistance, Abi.

@Foxdene, we'll keep an eye on your update. Let us know if there are any improvements after trying out Abi's suggestions.

Thanks for the details, @BillIT. Please switch the second Nest Wifi router and make it the main point connected to your modem. Setup the working first node as a point and check if the issue persists.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely

I tried switching the nodes but realized they can't be switched without factory resetting and reconfiguring them. That will be more disruptive so I have to find time between work to tackle this. I should have time to do this tonight or tomorrow and will let you know if things improve.
