Yup, it's possible. You need to bridge the Nest Wifi/Google Wifi unit. You can only have one bridged unit per Google Home home, so if you got multiple, you must create a Google Home home per unit.

How to put Nest Wifi in bridge mode to use it as a standalone access point:

Hello everyone,

I am very new to home networking and I recently just bought a house that comes with two on ceiling WAPs. I have a Netgear C7800(2 in one) as my primary modem/router.

My question is, can I use my Google WiFi AC1304 router as a WAP. I was thinking of connecting this on the ceiling so that my two rooms would get stronger coverage.

I appreciate your time in reading my post and have a fantastic day/night 🙂

Thanks

Like olavrb said, you can enable bridge mode to use your Google Wifi as WAP. But we don't recommend it since you'll lose most of the device's functionality. If you have additional questions about your network setup, feel free to address them to me so I can further help.

Many thanks,
Lovely

Hello lovely,

I actually just encountered an issue where my netgear modem/router combo is died. I now am wondering how I should setup my new home network.

I have a 2070 sqft house, with 2 wireless access points set up on the ends of the house. I have 1 google wifi point. What sort of setup should I look into to take advantage of what I have right now? I'd hate to not use the wireless access points, but if they are unnecessary, oh well.

Thanks

Hello atm1333,

If your Netgear modem-router combo is not working, you can set up your Google Wifi point as the primary router in your house instead. It's just that it can only cover up to 1,500 square feet. Can you tell me what are the model of your other wireless access points?

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hey Lovely,

I have not purchased any other wireless access points yet. At this point I am just trying to see what would work best for me based on what I have on hand and my new house.

Do you think it would be better for me to just set up a mesh system? should I buy some wireless access points and use the google wifi point as the primary router?

The house has CAT5 data and I believe I will be opting in on 250mbps plans.

Thanks

Hey Tik,

Mesh systems are actually great, but in the end, it depends on what type of network setup you want. For a 2,070 square-foot house, two Google Wifi points should be enough for you to get full WiFi coverage. Adding a third point should eliminate any dead spots in the area. If you sign up for a 250 Mbps plan, you'll need a Cat5e or Cat6 cable since the Cat5 is only capable of speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Regards,
Lovely
