I have google nest wifi all around my house, a few months ago my laptop decided to not want to stay connected to nest wifi, I just get the "no internet connected" message on wifi settings. I have tried everything with the laptop to get it to work. It is fine when it connects to my virgin wifi, no other device (25+) has this issue in the house. So it made me think that it was the laptop and something had been updated or changed. I have been on countless web chats with microsoft and google nest support changing and resetting network settings on the laptop. Nothing has worked. Lots of CMD prompt things have be re-done, drivers have been uninstalled, updated. Even ran some stuff in power shell yesterday with microsoft guy, no luck. Of course the main problem I have is that I have to chat to someone while on virgin wifi. soon as I connect to nest wifi I lose them.

Today I decided to prioritise the laptop on the home app, it has stayed connected all morning so far. But I cannot make that permanent, any idea?????

The laptop is a medion eraser gaming notebook P15805

Maybe this question is already asked, but did you reset your Nest Wifi system?
And how about a factory reset?

I know Windows systems can be picky from time to time.

Alright. I gathered some more Windows things to try.

---

Disclaimer

Proceed at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any problems these advices might cause.

Drivers

Make sure you wireless network card (NIC) has the latest drivers installed.

If OEM drivers haven't been updated in a while, or just to test some other drivers: Try to install generic drivers from the maker of the wireless network card too.

Also make sure to have the latest BIOS installed.

Network configuration in Windows

Use DHCP to let Nest Wifi handle IP addresses

Make TCP/IP settings are set to automatic, both for DNS and local IP address.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/bd0a07af-15f5-cd6a-363f-ca2b6f391ace

Make sure to not set static IP in Windows. The way to get static IP with Nest Wifi is using “DHCP reservation”.

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6274660?hl=en

Disable MAC randomization

Make sure “random hardware address” is disabled.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/ac58de34-35fc-31ff-c650-823fc48eb1bc

Disable use of proxies

Make sure no proxy is configured.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/03096c53-0554-4ffe-b6ab-8b1deee8dae1

Disable use of IPv6

Both on Nest Wifi (because its' support for IPv6 is questionable).

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6361450?hl=en

And in Windows on the specific NIC.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/bd0a07af-15f5-cd6a-363f-ca2b6f391ace

Hyper-V

If you don't know what Hyper-V is or don't have it enabled on the computer; skip this step.

Sometimes Hyper-V can cause issues with networking in Windows. An easy fix that often works is to simply disable Hyper-V, reboot, then enable Hyper-V again.

Check client logs

Logs on Nest Wifi is not easily accessible, here are more info on that:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/x/m-p/373016/highlight/true#M39930

Logs on the Windows client however, might give some insight into what fails. More on that:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/wireless-network-connectivity-issues-troubleshooting

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000150790

Fix a corrupted Windows install

Sometimes a Windows install can have corruptions/faulty software components. Sometimes problems like this can be detected and fixed by built in Windows commandline tools, like
SFC
and
DISM
. Worst case, a reinstall of Windows might be needed.

Example of how to use DISM and SFC: Close all other programs, then open CMD as admin and run these commands. Preferably with an active, working internet connection, as the DISM command will use Windows Update as source. Use an ethernet cable if Wi-Fi is useless.

SFC: See if there are any problems, don't attempt to fix:
sfc /verifyonly

SFC: See if there are any problems and attempt to fix:
sfc /scannow

DISM: See if there are any problems, don't attempt to fix:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM: See if there are any problems, use Windows Update as source to attempt to fix:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

If you can't get an working internet connection to the computer, you can also provide a Windows ISO file as a source for the DISM command. The ISO must match the edition (ex.: Home, Pro, Enterprise) and major Windows version (ex.: Windows 10 22H2, Windows 11 22H1, Windows 11 22H2). Then DISM can be invoked like so:s

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:"<path\to\an\windows.iso>"

Example with Windows 11 22H2 Pro:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:"C:\ISO\en-us_windows_11_consumer_editions_version_22h2_updated_feb_2023_x64_dvd_4fa87138.iso"

Hardware

Hardware can be faulty too. Many OEMs have a built in hardware diagnostic tool that might be worth a spin. Search up brand/maker of the computer and “hardware diagnostics” to find out how to do it on your specific hardware.

One thing worth trying nevertheless, if all other options have been explored: Wireless network cards are relatively cheap and easy to replace. So a troubleshooting step could be to buy a new wireless network card to see if it acts better. This could be a nice upgrade as well. More on that:

No still not fixed, tried all the suggestions in two threads now. The only thing that works is to prioritise the device on the home app or plug in ethernet cable. The WiFi then works for a while then goes back to connected but "no internet secured" very frustrating as it is the only device out of twenty five in the house that will not use the nest wifi

Hey Guacanoele,

Have you tried changing the WiFi password for your network? How about setting a static IP for your laptop after reserving an IP address for it? If not, follow the steps below and let me know how it goes.

Change WiFi password.
