Google Nest Wifi Point Speed Issues

This is a continuation to this thread, unfortunately I was traveling for the last 5 weeks with limited internet access so I couldn't respond in time before the thread was locked out.

The only update I wanted to provide was, I've tried everything that was suggested in the thread before I even open conversation, and I tried all of it again with no luck.

Unfortunately what worked for me was, I purchased a 50ft cat 6 ethernet cable to connect the router to the access point, and now my speed is respectable at 550mbps instead of <200mbps I was getting when I didn't hardwire. It's super disappointing that I have to hard wire, but it's better than spending > $200 getting a new system.

That is the normal behavior for wifi routers/points. It's a tradeoff to use wireless for coverage. Some other brand router uses 6Ghz for backhaul to increase performance, but I believe for Nest router because it's wifi-5, and it uses 5Ghz for it, so you will lose the half capacity for connection between the router and point.

Remember nothing is more reliable than a wired backhaul. Someday, the 6Ghz channel will be full of traffic. If you want to have a stable and high-performance network connection, you have to wire them.

Thank you Henry, that's super insightful. I am actually losing 2/3 speed between router -> Access point.

I will plan to do a proper wiring to connect the wifi access point.
