Hi

I got a nest wifi set up to cope with problems we have with getting internet through our house.

However we still have massive issues. I now have 4 additional points including one in the garage as well as the router.

Despite that the mesh network still shows weak connections on alot of the points. There seems to be an issue beyond the distance between points though as when i look for available wifi points i can see a strong signal from the points which show as weak connections on the mesh network.

The problem is driving everyone in the house nuts. Hopefully someone can offer some advice.

thanks

More units isn't neccessarily better. In fact the max recommended amount of wireless Nest Wifi units is five:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7182840?hl=en

If performance and range is important, you should get Nest Wifi router units only, as they are AC2200 and 4x4 MU-MIMO. While Nest Wifi point and Google Wifi is AC1200 and 2x2 MU-MIMO. Specs:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6280668?hl=en

I'd also look into wired backhaul, as in connect all Nest Wifi units by ethernet cable. It will give better performance and reliability. More on that:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7215624?hl=en

If pulling an ethernet cable everywhere isn't an option, maybe you have coax cabling already for ethernet over coax (MoCA), or powerline?

Here is a diagram on how to properly do wired backhaul:

So summary:

More Nest Wifi units isn't neccessarily better.

Ditch Nest Wifi points, do Nest Wifi routers only.

Go wired backhaul if you can.

Hi

thanks a lot for the detailed response it’s been really helpful. I finally got an extra router and replaced a point. The coverage is much improved but it seems that despite there being decent Wi-Fi bars in some of the peripheral areas the mesh network still shows low connection for the points in those areas. I do have a second mesh network for my radiators and heating. Could this cause an issue? I also haven’t turned off the Wi-Fi on my modem.
thanks again

Hello there mitched8,

Go ahead and change the placement of your Google Nest Wifi points. Ensure that there are no obstructions near them and that they're in an elevated area. If that did not work, enable bridge mode on your modem/router.

Keep me in the loop.

Kind regards,
Lovely
