Hello wardanb01,

Thanks for posting — let's get this sorted.

Please try to get your Macbook Pro to forget your Wi-Fi network before reconnecting to it. If that does not solve the issue, you can set a static IP address for your device and see if that helps.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Lovely

Hi Community,

I recently bought a set of three Nest Wifi Pro's to upgrade my home network. My house has a basement, main floor, and an upstairs. The wired router is in the basement. The mesh is set up in a way that each of the points have great connection when being tested, ensuring there's strong signal across the entire house.

Here's the issue: My office is upstairs, and the upstairs point is right across from my desk. My Macbook Pro M2 (from this year) *should* connect to this point for internet. When it does, I get incredible speed (>200 Mb/s download speed). But most of the time it connects to the wired point in the basement, the FURTHEST away from it; which brings speeds to 1-20 mb/s.

Super frustrating since with my old Google Wifi system that was not happening. I know that devices are "choosing their own adventure" when it comes to selecting the point, but something is just not right. I've tried moving points into a different place, I've restarted devices, network, computer. To no avail, it keeps connecting back to the basement after a few minutes.

Does anyone have opinions on what to do?

Thanks

Hi Lovely -

I've tried forgetting about the network and re-connecting, to no avail. I already had a static IP set, which also does not help with the macbook constantly switching wifi points to the basement. Appreciate the two ideas.

Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,

Please verify that your Macbook Pro is up-to-date. If possible, try to change the Wi-Fi password on your network. Make sure that the new password does not contain any special characters. Once done, perform a 2-minute power cycle using this guide:

Disconnect the power from the modem.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.

Disconnect the power cord from the child points.

Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.

Connect the power cord to the modem, then to your router and points.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Lovely
