Improving Google wifi pts connection from good to great

I have a 3500 sq ft home with two floors and have three Google wifi pts two on the first floor and second on the second floor. My google home app shows "Good" connection on both the wifi pts. How do I improve that to "Great" Connection?

I have one wifi pt in the family room hard wired to the modem and the second one in the next room, and third in the loft. My son who uses his Nintendo Switch, gets disconnected a number of times when playing on the second floor.

Tried a couple of things that Nintendo recommended but the issue still keeps happening. Trying to figure out whether the issue is with the connection and whether I need to add more wifi pts. I saw on another thread that google wifi sometimes drops connection from good to bad and vice versa.

Google has good guidance on this here:

One thing that's not explicitly stated is you should aim to place your primary Wifi point as close as possible to the centre of your home. That's because the Google Wifi and Nest Wifi mesh system uses a fewest hops approach. If one of your secondary points can get even a weak connection to your primary Wifi point, it will do that instead of going through an intermediary Wifi point that may physically be closer. That's why not installing them in a straight line, and placing your primary Wifi point close to the centre of your home really helps, along with all the other guidance in that article above. If you still experience issues after that, you can consider extra Wifi points (though not more than 5) or look at hardwiring all your Wifi points.

thanks David. The only issue is that my primary wifi router is at one end of the house because thats where the cable is coming into the house and thats where our modem router, TV as well as other devices are.

I understand that, that's actually the same for me in the UK. My house has very thick walls so I decided to move my primary Wifi point to a central room in the house and hardwire it back to my modem in the living room. My secondary Wifi points are also hardwired back to a switch connected to my primary Wifi point for the same reason.

I am good for now. I bought a new Google Nest Wifi router and pt to add to my three google wifi pts. It's been a little better in terms of the network strength. One question I had was why the network status for the pts varies form day to day. Some day a few of the pts show as weak while other days they show up as Good or Great. I have not moved them since I installed them

Hi Irfan,

No biggie! I'm glad you're all set. Just make sure that there's minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) on your Google Nest Wifi points and that they're no more than two rooms apart.
