Google Home Nest / Mesh

Hi everyone

I current run Google Home nest mesh wifi using the Nest 2 devices. Nest 2 Router and a number of Nest 2 Points.

I've just upgraded my wifi at home to 1gb through Virgin.

I'm struggling to get anywhere near that through Google Home though, although I am getting that there/thereabouts when I connect direct to the Virgin Router.

Any hints/tips would be welcome.

Also, if I want to upgrade my Google nest devices to the latest Google Nest Pro, having already spent a lot on Google Nest 2 years ago, do Google offer any trade in for the older devices?

Are you having trouble getting 1gbps via wifi when connected to Nest?
Do you have anything hardwired to nest directly?
Idk about trade in. I sold my nest wifi beautiful fire getting the pro.

@JasonF1, thanks for reaching out. Please verify that the Ethernet cable is undamaged and plugged in securely to both your Virgin modem and Google Nest Wifi router. You may also try changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to see if that improves your network performance. Check out this article: Troubleshoot slow Wi-Fi.

Also, we don't have a trade-in program for Google Wifi and Nest Wifi devices. You may visit our Google Store website for promotional offers.

yes, the Ethernet cable is undamaged and in securely. I get great speed from the virgin router when I connect to it direct through Wi-Fi. It’s through the Google nest set up where my speed is awful.

I’m not sure how to change the DNS server so I’ll have a look as to how I do that.

Yes I’ve changed it and there’s no difference.
it’s all because Google Home 2nd gen isn’t compatible with Wi-Fi 6! So I’ve got to upgrade to google pro - huge waste of money, all because Google haven’t made their 2nd generation Google nest system able to be upgraded to meet new software. Absolutely disgusting. I’m actually looking now at other ecosystems because I’m so angry about it.

Hi folks,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have and apologies for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6:
1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
2. Tap the Wi-Fi coin and then Settings Settings.
3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
4. Scroll down to IPv6.
5. Toggle the switch off Toggle button off.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Yes I've tried this.
It was already set to IPv6 'Off', so that's fine.

It won't let me change the primary/secondary servers from 'automatic'. Every time I do, it comes up with an error message and won't save. I've also re-started all my devices multiple times too.

I'm getting rather frustrated with this.
If Google are going to make all their kit obsolete, they should compensate people.
