What exact switch? Some unmanaged switches can have loop detection/prevention, like STP (spanning tree protocol).

Have you tried a different gigabit cabable soft ethernet cable between the switch and the 2nd unit? Nest Wifi can struggle with thicker, stiffer cables like shielded CAT6a, where a softer CAT5e could work better.

It's also recommended not to mix wired and wireless backhaul as it can inteoduce loops. Either go all wireless backhaul, or all wired.

My house was built more than 10 years ago, it should be cat 5, the reason to have this access point connection wired it is situated fare from any other point (more than 30 meters), my servers which connected to the same switch situated about 20 meters and I use them for home smart stuff (lighting, DVR, security...), I never have connection down or weak

When this access point shows as wireless, the only way to get it wired, I use my Home App, WIFI, Network settings, Restart entire network which is not practical at all, I appreciate if you have a better solution

If possible I'd try to use wired backhaul with all Nest Wifi units, as mixed backhaul can be problematic. Mixed backhaul can cause strange, hard to diagnose problems.

Either way, I'll escalate the thread, hopefully Google will look into it.

If going down the all wired units option:

Ethernet over coax (MoCA) and powerline are alternatives worth exploring.

Sell Nest Wifi points, get Nest Wifi routers only.

I don't work at or for Google, so I'm not the right audience. I'm just trying to share info on what have helped people in the past.

Some logs would be nice, I agree. But Nest Wifi does not provide that, never has, probably never will. It's kind of out of scope of what Nest Wifi tries to be. But logs would be great either way, would make it easier for us customers to troubleshoot.

Some genral advice based on my previous experience with similar niche issues: Don't expect Google to fix it within reasonable time, if at all. If you don't want to follow advice on how to get Nest Wifi to work better in it's current state (don't mix backhaul), and if you feel what Nest Wifi currently offers doesn't cut it for you, you'd be better of looking for a different Wi-Fi solution.

Hi memam,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have.

The mesh network is a learning network, which can change how connections are managed over time. If the connection strength is a problem for you now, however, you can try moving the points around a bit to see how that affects mesh strengths. Just keep in mind that each point's connection strength is in relation to the main router and not to any other points on the network. As you experiment with placement, keep distance to the main router in mind first.

Also, if you could try other alternatives like ethernet over coax (MoCA) and powerline, that would be great isolating things.

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.

Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.

Remove any special characters in your network name and password.

Turn off IPv6.

Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.

Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.

If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Thanks for helping, olavrb!

Best,
