Google Nest Wifi - Unable to reconnect after power failure

Restarting from another thread since it's closed and no obvious solution.

Problem:

The Google Nest Wifi router and its Nest Wifi point work great as long as there is power. But after a power failure or a reboot of the switch/router, it gets offline. Only a factory reset solves the problem after a couple of attempts.

It affects both ethernet and wifi from the nest router. Everything works fine with other routers using the same ports. Only Nest that gets offline.

Thing is it won't happen every time, just once in a while and it's so frustrating when it happens.

Hi Nebelulosa,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have. We’ll ask a few questions to make sure we get the correct steps to take.

When was the last time the issue happened?
Was it after a power outage or after a switch/router reboot?
When you did the factory reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link?
Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

You can do a sequential reboot of your entire network and see if that helps, or please perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network to re-establish the connection on your connected devices. Here's how:

Disconnect the power from the modem.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
Connect the power cord to the modem then to your router and points.

Secondly, we can isolate this further by not including the switch. Let’s try this topology instead:

Modem > Nest Wifi router > Nest Wifi point

See if there’s a difference between unplugging and replugging the modem.

Hi,

Yes, this happens after a power outage. We sometimes have to turn our switch off at night and when it restarts in the morning the Nest won't connect. Basically I need to this as a parental control. My sons computer connects to the switch with a ethernet cable and he will stay online all night if I don't turn it off. I don't have a modem, just a fiber optic cable that comes in to my apartment to a switch.

When the problem occurs I've done all the steps that you describe. Maybe I haven't had it disconnected for the whole 2 minutes. It won't happen all the time.

If I would like to turn of the switch at night, is there a preferred cycle to do this? I mean, is it better to turn of everything and could it be better if the Nest router shuts of before the ISP switch and then turns on after, like this: Nest off -> Switch off -> Switch on -> Nest on?

We know what you’re trying to explain; however, these devices still rely on power to function. Are there any ways for your devices to have a different power outlet?

Not sure you get what I try to explain.

Regardless of my reasons. I'm not dumb and realize the device need power to function. It's just that almost every time I restart my switch or router it wont connect to internet afterwards. Just says no internet connection. I do every type of restart without success and then needs to fall back to reset the whole router.

Could it really be that such a good device can't cope with a restart or power outage without bugging out?
