ISP download speed 800Mbps, but Google Nest Wifi Pro Mesh reduced to ~20Mbps

Download issues… s l o w and inconsistent.

My ISP (Xfinity) consistently provides ~900Mbps on an 800Mbps plan on hardwired connections.

I have Google Nest WiFi Pro, and the MESH connection between all the points shows “Great Connections”.

I’ve tested the ISP download speed on my hard-wired PC with speetest.net and https://speedtest.xfinity.com/ and saw the same download speed the ISP reflects.

BUT, I’m only getting 20-30 Mbps over the Nest MESH on my iPad Pro 12.9” 3rd gen via the Nest app. When I use the Nest app, it my iPhone (13 Pro) speed varies from 20-30 to 300-537 Mbps download speed. I also tested the speeds on my iPhone with the NetSpot app, and shows download speeds of just 20-23Mbps.

I’ve also tested the WiFi speed directly from my ISP Modem, on all my devices I regularly see >450Mbps.

I plan to reset all devices, power-off and power-on, and test the speed again on after each.

Any other suggestions???

Hi Wargamer316,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we apologize for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Which Google/Nest router are we working with? What device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Do you have the Internet on your modem?

You can do a sequential reboot of your entire network and see if that helps, or please perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network to re-establish the connection on your connected devices. Here's how:

Disconnect the power from the modem.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
Connect the power cord to the modem then to your router and points.

Also, you can give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6:
1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
2. Tap the Wi-Fi coin and then Settings.
3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
4. Scroll down to IPv6.
5. Toggle the switch off Toggle button off.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Don't know if this will help, but I read this recently about a bug in the software that slowed down the network. The fix that worked was to turn off video conferencing as a preferred activity.

Network Settings > Preferred Activities > Video Conferencing. Uncheck the box and save. There's a thread in this community that said this change fixed the user's problem. They had decent connectivity, but it would decline by more than half over time. Unchecking the box fixed the user's problem. Hope this helps. It certainly is a lot less intensive solution than a previous post. Worth a try anyways. If it doesn't work, do what Dan said.

So I am having the same issue, only I've tried all the above and it only creates more issues.

I have 1Gbps from ISP in my area and a Technicolor cga4234 router. I've previously been able to get well in the 700s wired when I used the ISP modem. The performance wasn't consistent though.

On the Nest I average 350mbps wired. I've tried changing the Ethernet, updating the DNS server to 8.8.8.8, unchecking the video conferencing option. However I will say that I am having a frustrating issue with the Google DNS.

Every time I try to set a custom DNS with the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 my router begins flashing yellow and I eventually have to factory reset it to get it back functional. I also tried the IP6 versions and had the same issue.

I could settle for the 350 since it appears stable but I download games a lot and those download times were impressive when I used the ISP router. I would go back to them honestly but I have a lot of devices and needed something that could handle the traffic. Ive also searched regarding the topic and a lot of people seem to be reaching similar speeds based on their ISP speed (IE, ISP 1Gbps and they average ~3-500mbps).

Anyone else having a similar issue?
