Suspicion is this happens when the Google Home app cannot access the internet for some reason. As a workaround, you could try using a different device for setup or perhaps try with a mobile hotspot?

I have used previous generation of Google WiFi Mesh network devices (pucks, Gen 1, I think, one as router, 3 nodes) for a number of years. Model AC-1304. They work ok on my network, but do not support full capacity of Fiber coming into house now, so I decided to try to update WiFi Mesh to NEST WiFi PRO 6E with two nodes (total three devices).

I have not been able to add the NEST WiFi PRO 6E (what will be WiFi Router) to my Google Home App. I get this failure message when I try to add:

DNS resolution failed for googlehomefoyer-pa.googleapis.com:443:UNKNOWN:getaddrinfo(“googlehomefoyer-pa.googleapis:443”):nodename nor see name provided, or not known (8)

I am using iPhone to run Google Home app. I tried a number of setting on iPhone per various suggestions in posts I have read.

Turned of cellular data

iCloud Private relay is off

WiFi has been turned off

I still get the error message above when I try to add device to Google Home.

When I plug old Google WiFi Gen 1 router in, instead of new, with the cat 5 from modem, The old network comes up fine. I do not think there is an “internet” problem.

I would really like a written process for this, instead of maybe try this or that… But any support would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, I took down Gen 1 WiFi/Mesh, and plugged in NEST WiFI PRO. This time i had my iPhone connected to a mobile hotspot from another phone. I launched Google Home App and tried to add new device. The app identified the new device, and then worked on setting mesh network… and within a minute this error message came up and process stopped:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (Googlemac_iPhone_Home_Wifi_Operations_Impl_Impl.PollForCompletionOperationImpl error 0.)

So, some progress, different error, but still not operational…

You mentioned you're upgrading from Google Wifi. Are those devices still showing in your Google Home app? It's best to factory reset those so they're removed from your Google Home app, before trying to setup your new Nest Wifi Pro units.
