I was able to get my WiFi point to the latest version by keeping that point plugged in right next to the router for a couple of days. Unfortunately though, all the devices being on latest version didn't really fix the problem. Looks like this update is fundamentally broken. My WiFi points are spending at least few hours each day having those dreaded blinking orange rings with no connection to internet. When you sit right next to the router without the effect of the WiFi points, the internet is better so I've been working without my monitors on my laptop from next to the router last couple of days 😞

Mesh performance issues with release 14150.883.859

I started a new thread because my problems with Nest WiFi release 14150.883.859 are different from those reported in other threads.

I am experiencing horrible latency and jitter (e.g. up to 6 seconds!) and resulting bandwidths measured in Kbps on devices connected to the 3 H2D WiFi points in my mesh, versus consistently low latency (15 to 50 msec pings to 1.1.1.1, std dev 5 msec) for devices connected to my H2D WiFi router. The problem may persist for 10 minutes then disappear for a while, but the WiFi points may as well be bricks, as that would be less frustrating.

All 4 H2D devices have 14150.883.859 installed.

Google needs to either fix this issue or pull this release and repush the prior release. I would revert to a prior release myself but AFAIK that’s not possible.

I’ve narrowed the problem to one of the WiFi points updating to the newer version (1.56.514310) but my other WiFi point still stuck in the older well known version (1.56.463275). If I disconnected the WiFi point still stuck in the older version, that prevented the flapping but this means I’m not getting WiFi signals in portions of my home dependent on that WiFi point (which is kind of the main reason why I even bought a mesh system).

i feel once both the WiFi points get updated to the newer version (1.56.514310) this problem will be solved but I’m not sure how to force the update. I brought the WiFi point with older version right next to the router and restarted it a few times and even tried a factory reset but none of those steps is forcing an upgrade

Hi @vaithia,

Thank you for contacting the community. I am sorry to hear about the connectivity issues you’ve experienced following the recent software updates. I understand that after updating your mesh points, the system is displaying orange rings and failing to connect to the internet. I appreciate the troubleshooting you’ve already done, including rebooting the hardware and performing a factory reset. I'm happy to assist you in resolving this.

@Drock619, thank you for jumping in.

To further investigate and resolve this matter, please provide the following information:

Please ensure the power and Ethernet cables are securely connected and not damaged.

Double-check that the cables between your modem and the primary point are properly seated.

Who is your current Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Could you confirm the exact model of your devices? This article may help you identify them: What Google Nest Wifi device do I have?

I look forward to your reply.

Bericht:
Hi all,

I’m running into a strange issue with my Google Wifi (the older round pucks).

Yesterday, I had a fully working mesh setup with 5 points. Everything was stable and functioning normally. I had to reset my network because of provider change.

Since then, 3 out of my 5 Google Wifi points no longer work properly.

Problem:
After a factory reset, the affected units:

briefly show blue light

then switch to a slow blinking orange/white light

and stay stuck in that state indefinitely

They never return to the expected blinking blue setup mode.

What I’ve already tried:

Standard factory reset (10–15 seconds)

Deep reset (holding reset 30–40 seconds, including during power-on)

Waiting 5+ minutes after reset

Testing different power outlet

Swapping power adapters with working units

Resetting devices individually (not all at once)

Keeping the device close to the main router during setup

None of these steps resolved the issue.

Additional context:

These units were all working fine before the reset

Now exactly 3 out of 5 are stuck in this state

The other 2 still function normally

Question:
Is this a known issue where factory reset can cause units to get stuck in a boot loop or firmware state?
Or does this indicate hardware failure (e.g. flash memory issue)?

Any help or insights would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

1. Ethernet cables between router and modem are connected and fine. As I wrote in my latest update "When you sit right next to the router without the effect of the WiFi points, the internet is better"

2. My ISP is AT&T Fiber

3. I have the Nest Wifi router and Wifi points (Model H2D/H2E)

@Drock619

I have tried a factory reset several times and it acts like it is going to work up until the "final bits" then it times out or says it failed.

==> I figured how to solve this problem thanks to this comment from someone else who faced a similar issue:

"The reason that the error causes is due to the bug resulted from multiple devices (I have a lot of smart devices, not sure if you’re same as me) connecting to the Google Mesh Router.

What I did is to change wifi name to a “temporary” wifi name. Now all my smart devices is not connecting to the router so the router can function normally to add the point.

Then you should be able to set it up like new without any issue. Once all points has setup and ready to go, change wifi name back to the one you normally use. All the smart devices now connect back to the router. Done!"

But be warned - Factory reset is not going to help. The mesh connections are broken after the latest update. The sooner Google will acknowledge and fix that rather than sending us on wild goose chase about connected cables, the better it will be for its customers

Hi @Piet_G,

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand that after performing a factory reset, 3 of your 5 Google WiFi devices have an orange blinking light, which is not letting you have the mesh structure that you had before. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put into solving this. Help is here!

To better understand this situation, I would like to ask the following questions:

Hello @sinnomoar

I have seen a few of these reports, but I haven't seen any release notes for that firmware version (Google doesn't usually update their release notes page until a significant majority of units have been updated – it's possible they've put a hold on the rollout, but if so, I haven't heard about that, either; if they do that, they usually fix the issue and roll forward with a fixed version instead of rolling back). I will say this "feels" like it could be a memory leak to me, but that's mostly based on having seen things like this before. If it is a memory leak, it may be triggered by a particular set of configuration options. Do you have a guest network configured? Family WiFi? Preferred activities enable? IPv6?

IPv6?

In answer to your questions, I do have a guest network configured, but I think the only atypical aspect of my mesh configuration is that I reserve IPs for almost all devices.

FWIW I also note that my AT&T Fiber modem/router, located near the mesh’s base H2D router, continues to broadcast its SSID in spite of my disabling both WiFi bands in its configuration. That WiFi network won’t connect (claims incorrect password), and it’s probably been this way a long time, but I don’t know for certain.

Glad to hear you may have solved this!

I asked a few questions just to try to get a better picture of what combination of things might trigger this for some people and not others. Your AT&T device shouldn't be much of a problem as long as the SSID it is advertising is different from the one your Nest WiFi system is providing.

Hi there.

Thank you very much for reaching out to the community! I understand the issues you are encountering with your Nest WiFi points constantly disconnecting and showing orange lights, as well as the Google WiFi failing to return to setup mode after a reset. I can see how much frustration this has caused; please rest assured, I am here to help.

For those who have experienced issues following update 14150.883.859 / 1.56.514310, we would appreciate it if you could share your feedback directly through the Google Home app and provide a description of the problem.

For those experiencing the issue where Google WiFi fails to return to setup mode (indicated by a slow pulsing blue light) after a reset, please confirm that you have followed the standard factory reset steps. You can verify the correct procedure in this article: Factory reset your Wifi device.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,
Eduardo
