When trying install a tp-link onhub to my Google nest Wi-Fi as an access point I received the following:

We noticed you have an incompatible network

OnHub can't be added to a Google Nest Wifi Network.

Receive the above message when trying to add an unhub to my Nest Network.

I manually reset my tp-link Onhub with no issues. I then went to Google home and selected the plus sign to add a device. After selecting the home for the device the app offered up to add the Onhub and asked me for a nine digit code from the bottom of the unit. I typed that in and then received the above message saying that the onhub was not compatible with nest.

Thanks to @olavrb and @Jeff for your help and concern. It may work with Google Wi-Fi without nest but I am pretty sure from what I have seen that Google Nest Wi-Fi will not accept the Tp-link Onhub device.

I have replaced my Onhub router with Google Nest and I was curious if the unsupported Onhub router could in some way be used as an access point on my Google Wi-Fi mesh system?

You should be able to add it as a mesh point through the Google Home app, until it's discontinued in december 2022.

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11257354?hl=en

As I read it, it should continue to work like this after december 2022 too, but you won't be able to manage it.

Thank you for the response @olavrb . I will look into finding a place to use it as an access point and hopefully it will not need to be managed because it will only be used as an access point and have nothing assigned to it.

It looks like you and olavrb were able to sort out the question you had. I did want to follow up real fast to see if there's anything else you needed. If you had any other questions, just let me know.

Hey Jeff,

From all the instructions it seemed pretty simple until I went to do it. As you can see from my final reply the Google Nest wi-fi system did not accept the Onhub device.

As it seemed fairly definitive I marked my answer as the solution. I hope this was not out of order. Please let me know if I have transgressed.

Hey, ScampMichael.

You're correct on the inability to add them as a mixed network, but the OnHub devices will continue to function after the cutoff in some capacity. I'm working on getting the exact details, but it was definitely helpful for you to share that and mark it as the solution to your original question. Thanks for updating with that!

Thank you, Jeff, for the response. I will hold off recycling my OnHub hoping the details you come up with will provide some kind of functionality for my use case and may provide guidance for others upgrading to the Google Nest router from the OnHub router. I would love to see an alternate and better solution.
