Hey, NestWiFiUser64.

Thanks for clarifying that. You will actually run into issues trying to ping devices that are sourced from the guest network. You will need to have your devices on the main network in order to receive a ping back. In addition to that, some devices block pings by default, so it might be worth looking into the device itself to see if it follows that behavior.

Thanks.

Hey

I have a few devices on my Guest network and these are my work devices. So I have full control over their inner workings. They are well connected to the internet and connectivity works fine. So I moved them over to my primary network and ping works fine.

Unfortunately I cannot Ping any of these devices. Anybody know if Ping is disabled specifically for the Guest network. If so, are there any settings that can be overridden?

Thank you.

My guess is that it'd be more the firewall settings, ping is generally blocked between networks unless specifically allowed through your firewall, to stop malicious intruders working out what's up on your network.

Also just noticed that those devices are showing up in the primary network and there are zero devices in in the Guest network. Upon checking the IP the subnet of all Guest n/w connected devices are 87 and those on primary are set to 86. So indeed they are on a different net but the UI is messed.

Your router has a built in firewall and as you say, you can't do much about that. The PC you're pinging from probably also has a firewall, certainly if you're using Windows it does. I think you'll have to accept you can only ping devices on the same network as the device you're pinging from.

I saw your reply but being a techie myself this is not a convincing reply. The connecting devices are under my control and I know exactly what works on them. I just need to understand if Nest inherently blocks ping on guest network or not.

Hi, Juzdu.

You can check the software version in the Home app. Here are the steps.

Open the Google Home app .

Touch and hold your device's tile.

Tap Settings Device information.

Scroll down to view your software version.

You'll be looking for version number 14150.43.80. That's the firmware version number for both Google and Nest WiFi.

Thanks.
