My Nest Thermostats are connected to my Google Home app, but my Nest Protects don't show up. Both devices are still showing in my Nest app. How can I get the Protects to migrate?

It's not possible to migrate Nest Protect to the Google Home app at this time. Google hasn't made any announcements about the migration for this particular product.

Good luck. It's a huge mess. They say the Nest app is being discontinued. But if I go to the Home app and click *smoke detector* it says "use Nest app". Pretty lame.

I can't figure out how to add the new smoke detector I bought for a separate rental house to my Nest app. It just wants to connect to my home detector. I'm surprised at how bad the support for this product is. I assumed that with the high price, there would be good support. I finally found one place to send my question to Google, and never received an answer.

At some point I'm going to have to assume that it is impossible to add a smoke detector to a separate house with a separate Wi-Fi to the Nest app. I simply cannot get an answer to this. This is from the support article--no mention of a separate house.

OK, I finally got Google support to answer me. Very quickly actually. Took two tries, however. It is not possible to add a smoke detector from a different house with a different Wi-Fi to the Nest app. This really should be stated clearly in the support documents. I will now return the smoke detector I bought.

That's a shame because it is possible. You just need to create a separate home structure in the app for your rental house, so it's separate to your existing home structure. It then won't try and join the Wi-Fi at your existing home and will prompt you to enter the Wi-Fi network details.

Thanks I'll try that. This is what the Google Nest Advisor wrote:

"Google Nest Protect smoke detectors are designed to work within a single home environment on the same Wi-Fi network. They are not meant to be managed from a single account across multiple homes or Wi-Fi networks."

Thanks, I’ll share this feedback with the community team. The first sentence there is true, whereas the second is not.

You can create up to 5 home structures in the Nest app and manage them all with the same account. Each home structure is separate and you can add as many types of devices as is supported.

OK so I got it working. Thank you. But go on search, and try various combinations of "how do I add a nest smoke detector to a separate residence with a separate Wi-Fi". It's nearly impossible to find. You need to add this information to more of your support pages, in my opinion.
