Error P030 Cannot continue setup of device

Trying to set up my new Nest Protect, and it keeps trying to connect to a camera on a different network in order to get the network settings. I have about 15 cameras on various networks in my account, and am unwilling to delete and reconnect all of them, because troubleshooting and setting up Nest products shouldn't have to be my full time job.

I have tried all of the obvious things, turned off all of the cameras other than one with the correct settings, but it will ONLY try to connect to the one it has arbitrarily selected. After waiting forever, it returns error code P030, which has no documentation.

Has anyone gotten a Nest Protect set up without having to completely trash their whole setup and start over??

I've wasted 2 hours trying to troubleshoot this, very frustrating!

To troubleshoot effectively, please provide the following information:

Has the device been paired before?
How far is the device from your router?
Can you connect to the internet with other devices?
Are there any devices or appliances (like baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones) near the Nest Protect? These can interfere with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals.

Before troubleshooting, please ensure the following:

The Nest Protect and your device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Bluetooth is enabled on your device but not connected to other devices.
Cellular data is turned off.
On iOS devices with iOS 14 or later, ensure that Local Network Access is enabled for the Nest or Home app.

The P030 error code indicates that the Nest Protect is attempting to pair with your cameras. Please try the following steps:

Restart your phone or tablet.
Isolate Wi-Fi: Turn off cellular data and enable airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi back on.
Restart the Nest Protect and try a different mobile device or tablet.
Restart your network equipment. Unplug your modem, router, and any WiFi extenders for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Try a mobile hotspot: Switch your phone's Wi-Fi to a mobile hotspot and try to pair your Nest Protect.

If the inconvenience persists after these steps, please reset the Nest Protect to default settings, create a new home structure, and try to set up the Nest Protect again.

Hi Ana,

The issue is that the Nest Protect is trying to connect to a nest camera that is on a different network, and I have no way to specify which camera to get settings from, nor can I find a way to manually enter the wifi settings.

Could you please let me know how I can manually enter wifi settings, or select which nest camera it should connect with to collect the settings?

Thank you for your response to my previous post. I really appreciate all the detailed information. In this case, all the devices under the home structure can interfere with the connection between the Nest Protect and the network, even if the devices are connected to a different network. So far, there is not an option to identify the camera or manually enter the Wi-Fi information.

To resolve this inconvenience, the best approach is to create a new home and set up the Nest Protect within it. Before doing so, please make sure your phone is connected to the same network as the Nest Protect you're trying to connect.

How disappointing. That seems like a pretty glaring oversight.

As I said in my initial post, I have about 15 cameras and some are installed in difficult-to-reach places, so it's not reasonable for me to delete everything I worked so hard to set up and spend hours and hours trying to recreate it. Especially with no confidence it will work after all of that.

Sigh.

Thank you for your response. I understand how frustrating this situation can be. I never meant to disappoint you. I apologize if my explanation wasn't clear.

Creating a new home structure doesn't require deleting any cameras or devices already added to your current home. In fact, you can still access your other home after creating a new one.

To create a new home structure in the Nest app, you can use the same address as before. Here are the steps:

Open the Nest app.
In the top left corner, tap Menu.
Tap the Add Plus icon and then Continue.
Give your home a name and tap Next.
Enter your new home's address and tap Next.

For setting up Nest Protect, please refer to this article: Set up Nest Protect with the app.
