topic Sold a 10 year-old Nest Protect, new from Walmart in Nest Protect

Wow, I'm dumbfounded.

Obviously, I had no idea that Nest Protect was going away when I bought it from Walmart this morning, but the look on my face when I opened it up and looked on the back and saw a Manufacture date of 2015, with a replacement date of November 2025. So basically, I spent $100 on a product that is no longer supported (I'm okay with that), but the device itself is at the end of its useful life from a replacement standpoint.

Is my only option to return it for a refund since I'm understanding Google has completely stopped manufacturing new Nests?

Hi @dstho87

For what it is worth, I would personally return it. All smoke detectors have a lifespan and I wouldn't want to use a device that was near that date.

Here's the blog post from the Nest team about the Protect and the future First Alert alliance. Saying Goodbye to Nest Protect - Google Nest Community
