Nest Protect can’t reset

My Nest protect is flashing orange and says there’s smoke when there isn’t.

I've removed the back cover, fully cleaned it etc and message persists.

I’ve tried a hard reset, when it says it will reset in 5…..4, it gets to 4 then repeats there’s smoke.
any ideas??

Thanks for posting in the community! I'm sorry to hear that even after resetting your Nest Protect, it's still flashing orange and saying there's smoke when there isn't. I appreciate you trying those steps already. But don't worry; help is here.
My recommendation would be to run a Safety Checkup on your Nest Protect. This is to identify if you are getting false alarms. You can check the "Learn about Safety Checkup" for the steps to do it.
In the meantime, could you please confirm a couple of things for me?

What type of Nest Protect do you have?
Is your Nest Protect wired or battery-powered?
