I have a Nest Protect and my center button is also corroded. I have a warranty but Google tells me they either want my credit card information or I have to mail them my device before a replacement is sent to me leaving me without smoke and carbon monoxide detection. They are refusing to resolve this even though they confirmed I have a valid warranty.

@JohnsResponse Sorry to hear about this. The two options you've been provided are pretty standard in the industry. Either you:

Provide a card to place a temporary authorization on to cover the potential cost of a replacement device until the original device is returned. Once Google receives the returned device, the authorization is lifted and the money should be returned typically within 5 to 7 days, but this can vary, some banks may hold the funds for up to 14 days. This means you'll be sent a replacement as soon as possible to reduce the time you're without a device.

Return the device and wait for it be delivered before a replacement device is shipped to you.
