To meet certification standards, Nest Protect must be replaced when it's sensors expire or after 10 years from the date of manufacture, whichever comes first. The chirp acts as a reminder for you to take action, and is in fact required in order to comply with safety regulations. In both of these situations, Protect chirps continuously until the issue has been taken care of and as it is a safety critical device there is no way to turn it off.

It will not turn off. It's programmed in the detector, it know the expire date so even if you try to reset the detector it will still chirp. You have to trash it and get more detectors. You don't have to buy real expensive ones like the Nest. You just have to buy one that will function great and save your life with an early warning.

If money is a factor right now, go to your local fire station, they do normal stock free smoke detectors.
