Nest Protect sensor failure

The sensor in one of my battery-operated Protects seems to have failed. In the last few months I kept getting notified that there was a problem with the sensor and it needed to be cleaned, so I’d clean it out and replaced the batteries as well (we had this warning about 4 times in the last 6 months). Today, the sensor said it had failed and needed to be replaced.

I bought these in September 2019 but they were manufactured in 2017 and expire in 2027. It seems unreasonable that this detector would fail so early in its life.
Are there any solutions to seeing if the sensor really is dead or maybe there is some dust I just haven’t cleaned out well enough?

Hey there Nswest,

Sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with the Nest Protect sensors, I know it can be confusing, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

It sounds like you're on the right track with trying to dust things out and get it clean. I was able to find a great article that might help you with this as well. I would also see if you can run a Self Test to see if it reports any issues back to you.
