Problem is this is still using the legacy NEST.com API instead of the google device API. Although the defunct api may be available it's not the best bet to rely on it.

Googles official response on it is still the Nest App is the only way to access the information about the device.

Getting ready to install 10+ Nest protects in a new home but I would really like to know if the SDM API is ever going to support protect again. It's a bit ridiculous that you cannot offer a basic in alarm or not status at a minimum for such large investments.

I'm with you. I bought 12 Nest Protect smoke alarms and I simply want to turn on all lights and open all blinds in case of an alarm. As I'm using home assistant it could be so easy. But google is not willing to provide an API method or webhook for this. It is super annoying and I found lots of people on the internet having similar use cases blocked by the non available API methods. Google annoys all tech-savvy users.

I signed up for this community solely to make this comment. This functionality should be high priority, as it can actually make a significant difference for peoples lives, if the unthinkable should occur (fire!).

I hope a Google representative can give us some hope, by replying here that they are working on adding support in SDM. Even better would give an estimated quarterly release time.

Thank you!

You actually can use homebridge to read the states of nest protect. I just installed it on a raspberry pi.

You're right. And I also figured out that it is complicated to get the status out of homebridge if it isn't Homekit.

Two years ago I bought two Nest Protect smoke detectors. The only reason I'm not buying any more of these from Google Nest is the lack of API access. I want all lights switched on and heating and ventilation turned off in case of an emergency. It can't be too difficult to realize this, right?

I’m using the original Nest API for my protects. So if I upgrade to a Google account will I lose access to this API? Very concerning that Google has chosen not to support this

From my experience it still works as long as your access token is valid still but if that goes good luck renewing it once you migrate.
