How do I know what the yellow light means?

We get a yellow light on the Nest Protect when we turn out the lights at night. Info on this site says that could be a bad battery, a bad sensor, or an expired (what?). How do I know which thing is the problem? And how do I fix it?

Thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the community! The Nest lights can be confusing to decode at times. Let's work on this together.

Are you based in the UK?
If the yellow ring is blinking on your Heat Link, it means that the connection between your Nest Thermostat and Heat Link is lost.
If your yellow light is steady, it means your Heat Link has disconnected from your thermostat and isn't heating.

I have the same problem, but I am based in the US, not have a Heat Link, and I have replaced the batteries. Also, inside the nest it says I have to replace the nest protect in 2028.

I have the identical problem. I have replaced the batteries as of last week. Light is green for 2-3 data day then turns yellow. Within 3-5 hours the beeping starts and quickly progresses to a full alarm. FOUR of my six are now useless. No, there was no smoke. This is maddening because I’m just waiting for my last two to flare up during the night. Please help. My autistic child needs the pathway light, but is terrified of the sounds.
