Issue with scalding hot battery in nest protect

Hi I was awoken early this morning by my Nest protect chirping a low battery warning . I’d had no normal notification on either the app or by the voice control to inform me to change batteries but the very worrying part was one of the batteries was so hot I couldn’t even touch it ( I note that this problem has been reported quite frequently on community forum but can’t find any answers as to whether it’s just safe to replace batteries to be honest not sure I feel safe as my battery felt near to catching fire and before anyone asks I was using the recommended energiser batteries as stated by Nest .

Hi Megan I was in contact with Google nest who asked me to swap out all the batteries and monitor my Nest Protect . So far no problems with new batteries but I’ve decided to annually change my batteries just in case . Not really a solution to be honest I understand that you can get rogue batteries but feel if this is the case then there should be some sort of fail safe especially as it seems a common problem

Same issue. So hot I couldn't hold the battery. Not sure if a second one was also hot. Scary thought that a detector could get hot enough to cause a fire!

Same issue here at 4am, 3 batteries burning hot! This is something Goggle should take a look at. Batteries did last 2 years, when in theory should last close to 5.

Just had this issue today with no warning. Sudden low battery notification at around 12:30 PM. Removed the batteries and the battery in the lowest right position (when looking at the battery compartment) was super-hot - you could feel it through the detector cover. The battery above it was hot as well, but that might have been heat conduction.. Has the issue been addressed yet?

I'm having exactly the same issue today with low battery warning and one battery being so hot you couldn't touch it . I'm going toi change batteries but they only lasted 2 months. That can't be normal.

Same problem here. Got the 2 minute interval beeps, removed the detector from the ceiling, and one battery was so hot I could barely remove it.

Same issue here, seems to me like two batteries were boiling hot. I’m afraid to have the Nest on now, have four of those at home, two in the children room

Same issue, Low battery beeps without pre-warning on the app. Removed batteries, one was extremely hot. Could not hold it in my hand.
I would like to understand if it is still safe to use the device. Would it help to change batteries more frequently?

Exact same issue. I have lithium batteries in it and they have only been in there for 4 months. Burning hot battery when checked. No warning notification of low batteries.

The same thing happened to us this morning. I don't see any solution here so far. Is the problem Lithium batteries? Should we use regular AA batteries instead?
