How many Nest Protects in my new home?

I'm moving into a new home in a few weeks. It's a "track home" where the builder gives you floorplans to select from and then you pick the interior stuff and finishes. I want to replace the builder-installed smoke/co2 detectors (first alerts) with Nest Protects, but I'm not sure how many to get and install. The home is 3,000 sq ft with 3 bedrooms (one to be used as a gym). I'm guessing that due to local code regulations the builder installed 10 detectors throughout the home (all rooms, hallways, etc). This seems like overkill to me and I don't want to purchase and install 10 nest protects. I will definitely purchase and install enough to ensure appropriate and safe coverage for all areas of the house. Not looking to be unsafe, but do want to be prudent about how many are really needed. I recall seeing a google support article a couple years ago for how many and where to install nest protects, but i cannot find it. Thanks for any guidance.

Hi @mk4635429 ,

The only information from Nest that I have about Protect placement is this: Rooms in your home that need a Nest Protect - Google Nest Help.

I would also suggest reaching out to your local fire department or other local resources to see about your new home's requirements. There could be regional codes that supersede the suggestions from Nest.
