Battery needs to be replaced

My nest protect continually says I need to replace batteries. I have replaced them twice but the message comes back within two hours. Do I have a faulty nest?

Are you using what brand for the batteries?

Google recommends the Energizer ones:

Nest Protect (battery powered) uses 6 Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries as its sole power source. Nest Protect (wired) uses 3 Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries as backup if your household power goes out."
