Future Nest Protect support

Hello all,

Does anyone know if Nest protects will be functional in the Google Home app when the Nest App goes away next year? Functional meaning...alerts, self tests, silence false alarms, low battery alerts,....etc. I would like to buy additional units, but afraid they will not have "smart" ability. I called support and they hung up on me...Didn't get a good feeling about that. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen any announcement of the Google Nest app going away next year.

Google Nest HAS announced that it is ending support for Nest Secure and Dropcams as of April 8, 2024, and "Works with Google" as of Sept. 29, 2023.

Beyond that, the question of supporting Nest Protects in the Google Home app is a good question.

Do not buy more units. The response you got from support and the one here thanking mpls for giving a helpful answer show Google doesn't care. They can't be trusted to even keep this system alive in it's existing state.

What would be helpful would be for Google Nest to clearly state what Nest Protect's future is--given the demise of Nest Secure--rather than thanking customers for trying to guess at what's really going on.

We appreciate your request for this additional feature, and please be assured that our product team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to the Google Nest devices. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback. Currently, the best option is to use the Nest app for your Nest Protect and use the Google Home app for your Nest Camera.

In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock this thread within 24 hours. If you run into any more questions in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

Seeing your name posting a reply, i could unfortunately tell that you would post the feedback template, and threaten locking the thread after 24 hours.

Do not lock this thread. There is no official answer to this question yet, even though the unofficial answer is pretty bleak.

These responses do not help instill trust in your customers, and are demeaning and infuriating, to send us to a black hole form, that lets customers vent somewhere, that never gets addressed, that Google will never act on.

We asked for a simple update to the future direction of Nest by Google, and this template response shows us the Google is NOT listening, they don't care, and that they'll just keep selling these feature crippled devices as long as suckers buy them, before just writing Nest off as a business loss on taxes and scrapping the remaining inventory.

Yes I agree this post shouldn't be locked down without a good answer. Isn't that what this forum is for? It is sad that Google/Nest has abandoned the Nest Secure system. I have so much invested in their Nest/Google ecosystem. This type of response from support makes me think twice before buying another Google product. Google Team..Just a thought..Should I buy a 10 year life "smart" product when support could end in a year or two? I'm thinking I won't get an direct answer to my questions especially with post being threaten to be closed. Thanks to all who have provided input. I appreciate it.

Between my experience with Nest, and this forum, and so many other product failures, i've decided i'm migrating off everything google as i am able.

I returned a brand new pixel 6 pro in the 30 days bc it lacked a pro camera mode, and overheating with the gps running, with the ac cranking.

They released a Fitbit firmware that bricked watches, and they never offered a rollback or patch, and just a "sorry, not sorry, heres a coupon code." (Then the feature nerfing too.)

Workspace accounts not able to use features from free google accounts, etc.

With Micro$oft getting pushy too, forcing Edge doen throats like AOL... This former Apple hater is thinking about giving them a go, even with all their anti right to repair shenanigans.
