Batteries short lifetime

Since getting this product in 2020, we are replacing the batteries in our 6 detectors every 3-6 despite using the recommended batteries which are supposed to be good for 5 years. Doing do is extremely costly and a hassle for a product of this caliber. I'm seeking resolution and restitution.

Every 3 to 6 what?

Are you using the correct batteries? Only Energiser Ultimate Lithium AA are acceptable. Alkaline AA batteries will not work.

I meant 3-6 months. Yes, I'm using the recommended batteries like everyone else complaining abouth this issue.

It os battery powered throughout rhe house and basement. When we finished the basement 6 months Ago, the contractor replaced the ones in the basement for a Wired. We havent done any updates yet. We havent installed the app on the phone yet. I didnt think It have anything to do with the battery issue. I will try to do the updates when I get back home.

Hey folks,

@UnhappyCostumer, how's it going with your Nest Protect? Just a reminder, the battery recommended is the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries. Using other types of batteries than the ones recommended by Nest will be detrimental to the smoke and CO alarm operation. Don’t mix and match batteries. Don’t place new batteries in with old batteries.

Battery life varies greatly depending on usage: how many times Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide (CO) and sounds the alarm, how often Path light turns on, where the Nest Protect is placed in the home, etc. Nest Protect batteries should probably last longer in that rarely-used guest room than in the kitchen. The more Nest Protect is used, the sooner it needs new batteries.

Things you can do to extend the battery life of your Nest Protect:

Turn the path light brightness to low or disable it entirely.
Turn off Nightly Promise. Nest Protect still speaks if the batteries get very low, and the customers should notice the battery status in the app.

@DanCoco, software updates are rolled out gradually and usually take a few weeks to make it to all Nest Protects. There is a gradual rollout to make sure that the process goes smoothly for all of the users. If you notice a new update listed below but it's not on your Nest Protect yet, it should automatically update. You may check the updates here.
