Hi Commander19,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, how far are they from your Wi-Fi router? Do you have Wi-Fi extenders? Do you see any error messages?

Give these steps a try:

If you have at least one 2nd gen Nest Protect in your home, you can run a Safety Checkup with the Nest app.

1. Sign into your account in the app.

2. Select Nest Protect on the home screen.

3. Tap Checkup at the bottom of the screen.

I recently installed 8 Protects and 4 of them are hardwired and the others are battery/wireless. I noticed on the hardwired that they are always sending a wireless signal which I can tell in my Eero app because they always show connected under my active devices. The battery/wireless don’t show this and they are randomly checked once a day and never show a constant signal in the Eero. I am guessing the battery operated ones are not in a constant wifi to save the batteries but is that normal? Thanks

Yep it passes the check and the wireless units individual say network is ok when I test the actual units. I am just thinking the battery units don’t sent out a 24hr wifi signal to save the batteries

Hey everyone,

@Commander19, I’m chiming in to ensure you’ve got the answer you’re looking for. You’ve hit the nail on the head; Nest Protect doesn't maintain a constant Wi-Fi connection. See below:

Battery-powered Nest Protects normally test the Wi-Fi connection once per day.

Wired Nest Protects normally test their connection every 30 minutes, as long as the power is on.

You can check out this guide to learn how to manually test Nest Protect's Wi-Fi.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help, Emerson.

Best,
