topic Yale lock alternative border routers? in Security

I'm about to buy a Yale lock and I know it uses Weave to communicate and I assume it does so over Thread radio and so requires a border router to jump to ethernet.

It specifically says I need a Nest Connect or Nest Guard to make this connection.

Does the lock work with any other border routers, and if so, are there any unmentioned already in the Nest ecosystem? I'm just a bit surprised that the thermostats, Google home's and Nest Hub Max would all lack Thread border router capability.

It would appear that Nest Hub Gen 2, Nest Hub Max, and Nest Wifi all have Thread edge router capability. As do several products from Nanoleaf, eero, and the Apple homepod mini and TV 4k Gen 2. Even the 4th generation Amazon Echo.

Would the Yale lock work with all of these or does it have proprietary requirements beyond Thread and Weave? If it doesn't work, why the heck would it not work with a Thread+Weave capable Nest Hub Max, a product from Google with HUB in the name‽

EDIT: Reddit tells me the Nest Hub Max absolutely does work for this, so it's weird that this isn't advertised in any way...

The crazy part for me is that the 2nd Gen hub that I just bought does not work with the lock (already installed) why call it a hub?

I am going to now return this product..

The 2nd gen Nest Hub does have a Thread radio and will support Weave and Matter with a coming update. A bit ridiculous that it didn't ship with that activated.
