We have recently started working on Matter-enabled devices using version 1.4. As the Matter specification has now moved from version 1.4 to 1.5, we would like to understand your timeline for supporting compatibility with Matter version 1.5.

As of February 2026, the official Google Home developer documentation still lists Matter 1.2 as the highest supported version for device types currently live in the ecosystem.

For production devices launching today that you want fully visible in the Google Home app (GHA) with native UI controls, you are effectively limited to the clusters and device types defined in Matter 1.2 (such as Air Purifiers, Dishwashers, and Robot Vacuums).

Matter is designed to be backward compatible, your Matter 1.4 or 1.5 hardware will still commission and function on a Google fabric, but it will only be recognized and controlled based on the clusters that Google currently supports. Advanced 1.5 features (like the new camera streaming protocols) would not be accessible until the ecosystem updates its core controller software.

Keep a close eye on the Google Home Developer Release Notes. This is where Google will first announce the jump to 1.3 or 1.4 support, which must happen before 1.5 can be implemented.
