I have two pairs of nest speakers, a pair of Google Home 1st gen in my office and a pair of Nest Audio speakers in my living room. I use both as stereo pairs. On July 16, 2024, I tried to stream music on the Nest pair and it seemed like nothing was happening. I tried several platforms (Spotify, TuneIn) and had the same issue. I finally noticed that the music was just playing very quietly no matter how much I turned it up. I went out to my office and it was the same on the other pair of speakers! I finally found that if I turn the mic off and back on then it will play at regular volume but I need to do it each time I start a stream. This is crazy! I can only guess it was do to a software update that hit both pairs at the same time. Any ideas?!

That is strange! Does it only happen when playing through pairs? How about individually? Try rebooting the devices and if that doesn't help, a full reset may. Let us know how it goes.

Hi again!

Update from the Google Team and no currently known issues like you are having.

They have suggested checking the Continued Conversation mode as in this article:Have a conversation with your speaker or display - Google Nest Help

The devices seem to turn off the volume and it returns to normal when the mic is turned off. There's a possibility these devices could be in continued conversation mode, so disabling it might help determine if it's related.

I have exactly the same issue!

Mic-switch off and on temporary fix the problem until the next time i stream something.

Reset the hole setup, everything works as it should until I make a stereopair.

There's definitely a bug somewhere.

I toggled it and it behaves differently. The lights on the speaker stay on. The problem I'm having is that the speaker responds and starts music but it's very quiet and won't turn up louder.

@JillG the issue seems related to the 'start sound' and 'stop sound'. If I go in the Home app to Speakers > Settings > Accessibility > Start Sound, Stop Sound and turn the sounds off then the speakers seem to operate correctly. It's not quite that simple because I have to toggle the mic button again before the speakers work correctly with the start, stop sounds turned off.

I also have a nest pair with the same issue. More specifically, I can avoid the issue if I turn off the 'play end sound' setting for the pair. In other words, if play end sound is turned on, my music only plays very quietly. I can fix it by toggling the mic. If I keep play end sound turned off, the pair plays music normally. Let me know if you need more feedback from my device.

Thank you again for submitting feedback, it appears the team got all they needed and are actively working on a fix. We're hoping that it will rollout soon, but in the meantime they suggested a workaround (which it looks like you already discovered).

In the Google Home app, select your device and navigate to its Settings > Accessibility and then disable "Play end sound." This should stop the bug from happening.

Thank you again for the patience, I'll be back to confirm when a fix is rolling out.

We are having this issue, specifically with Google hubs and nest WiFi device in a grouping. Thing is that start and end sounds have long been disabled.
