Try rebooting your router, and make sure your phone is on the same 5GHz network when you are doing the setup. You can choose diffrent networks in that drop down, but if the phone is on 2.4 instead of 5 it will not work.

I have a 1st gen Google Home that I recently factory reset. After doing so, I attempted to go through the device setup wizard using the Home app on my Pixel 5. It finds the Google Home device, but when it gets to the WiFi connectivity setup, it fails to connect to my open 5GHz network that I am able to select from the list of available networks. This is the same network it was previously connected to prior to the reset.

I tried the following:
* Simply trying again, and again...
* Resetting again
* Getting closer (right next to) the router
* Connecting to a different network

None of which has worked. Can anyone offer suggestions on what I should try next, or is this device just a paperweight now? Even if I could just get it working as a bluetooth speaker, that would be better than nothing.

Thanks for your time/advice!

So I'm having the same problem as OP. But my router uses the same network for both bands. I've restarted the router and it still won't allow me to connect the Home to my network.

Resolved by temporarily disabling my firewall rule which blocks requests to off-premise DNS (e.g. Google DNS servers)

THANK YOU! I've been trying to fix this for weeks and your comment is the only thing that worked. I made an account just to make this reply.

For CenturyLink users: Advanced Setup -> IPv4 Firewall -> Select checkboxes for DNS -> Apply. Once you confirm it works, you can go back and deselect the checkboxes and apply changes again.

Glad to hear this helped you!

Does anyone happen to know the rationale behind the firmware seemingly not honoring non-Google DNS addresses (handed out via DHCP) as this issue appears to reveal?
