Setting timers in different rooms not working

For quite some time I've been able to set timers on specified devices. For example, I would be in the kitchen and say "Set a timer for 10 minutes in the livingroom". Google assistant in the kitchen replies "OK, setting a timer for 10 minutes on your livingroom display". I would then go into the livingroom and see the timer on the display.

Quite often, like 90% of the time now, it still gives me the correct response, but fails to actually set a timer. Sometimes it's set a timer in the kitchen instead, but most of the time it's simply failed to set a timer anywhere.

It's incredibly frustrating that it pretends it has done what I wanted but not done it.
