Turning off my display camera so it doesn’t record every time I’m in the kitchen

I can’t seem to shut off my display camera. The display says my camera is off, but it is still recording every time I go in my kitchen.

That SHOULDN't be possible. The camera on our Nest Hub Max is turned off on the display (by scrolling from the bottom and tapping the camera icon). The clock display on our Nest Hub Max shows a camera with a slash through it, the LED status light never shows green (indicating the camera is on), and we cannot turn on the camera in the Google Home app.

I finally got the camera turned off, but it was definitely recording.
