10 days only worse nest speaker functioning

10 days ago Nest speakers wouldn't change volume by voice instruction. Now, one of the speaker pair connects and changes volume but the second speaker won't attach to the same wifi. I've done the factory resets on the speakers, reboots on everything, moving the second speaker closer to the wifi but it's still out.

I'm sure Google is short staffed and waaaay too busy over the holidays but if this goes on much longer it will be time to look at other speakers. I think they should at least address the issue diectly, soon.
