podcasts no longer "pickup where I left off"

For years my Google Home and Nest Mini devices picked up podcasts where I left off.

For a the last few weeks, my favorite podcast always picks up at a specific point in a previous podcast where I left off many listens ago. (I am "subscribed" to this podcast; I tried toggling it's subscription Off. The podcast in question is on "Google Podcasts").

And if I perform a test on any other podcast, they won't pick up where I left off at at all, ever.

I don't see any settings relevant to 'pickup-where-I-left-off' either on my account at podcasts.google.com, or in the Android Home app.

How can I fix this broken functionality please?

Google Home support tried many things but nothing helped. Including factory reset of all devices. Including trying different podcasts. Including me using the word "Continue".

My Google account's "Web & App Activity" (including "audio recordings") is On.

Please help!
