android tv not recognized for speaker group

i want to use my tv in my speaker group so i can use my amplifier. my chromecast ultra is recognized in my bedroom, but it wont let me add my tv. i have a philips oled.

any ideas?

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with this, I'm sure it may be confusing, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

I would suggest using these steps:

Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
Open the Google Home app .
Tap your speaker group Settings Choose devices.
Tap each device you want to add to the group. ...
Tap each device you want to remove from the group.

Thanks in advance for helping and for responding.

I have discovered that the problem is, that I can't add my Philips TV to my Google Home account. I'm trying to contact Phillips Support now.
What happened: It does recognize the television in Google Home as a device in my WIFI, but it won't let me add it to my devices.

well if you know why google home isnt recognizing the tv, or if it s a known issue, pls let me know. phillips support hasnt been in touch with me yet.

basically every new thing i have in my home was directly recognized. that s why im confusef why a 1200 dollar tv isnt.

phillips was unable to help me. i would really love to hear if this is technically not possible to recognize a built in chromecast in atelevision for speaker groups

Sorry for the issues with this. I was able to investigate this further and found that built in Chromecasts are not compatible or supported with speaker groups at this point but we are looking to add this feature in the future.

Apologies for the confusion here, we were able to investigate further on this and we found this article that states that Speaker Groups are supported by built in Chromecast devices, but it seems like our users have had some different experiences when it comes to adding Android TV devices to their speaker group. I'm checking with the team to get further details on if your Android TV is supported or not and will follow up when there are more details.

Hey Garret, Ye that was the main reason I chose to use a Chromecast Speaker like Harman Kardon for Multi Room. Because it said I could use my built in Chromecast for Speaker Groups...
Now that it's not working, I have to buy an expensive second hand Chromecast Audio or find a different solution.

I'm having the same exact problem - everywhere on the internet says this has been possible since mid-2020, but it's not working. If I'm playing media to a group, from the Home app, I can tap "More devices," but tapping the check bubble either doesn't do anything or says "Something went wrong. Please try again." This is really disappointing. I just bought this TV and it's the only device now that's not in speaker groups with the rest of the house. It's brand new, and can't play to my speakers. Don't call it "Chromecast" built-in if the oldest actual Chromecast works better than this. What is going on?

Not able to add or make a new Speaker group with the Android TV, I can Chromecast to it first, and if I start the current Google Home mini's and go to the Google Home app > media it does show up, but when I tap to have it start playing to the Andriod TV while the speaker group is already playing, it just spins till it decides to stop, anything you can think to try? All devices are on the same network (5.0ghz) only 1 wifi network is on the 2.4 is disabled at present

I have the same problem with my Sony Bravia with chromecast built-in. It does not show up if I want to create a new speaker group and i can't cast Spotify simultaneously on my Nest Hub an the TV. Would be nice if this will be solved with the next update.

Same problem for me. Read on the internet on multiple pages, that Nvidia shield and CC built in are the only compatible to add them to a speaker group.

And it is not working. Got a Xiaomi P1 50" with Built In Chromecast.

@GarrettDS - do you have any updates? Unacceptable that this is listed as a feature, yet is broken for everyone and you somehow don't know what's going on and have no information for us. Heard of "deceptive advertising?"
