Google Homes disconnect from wifi every day

I have 2 Google Homes and 1 mini connecting to a Ubiquity access point and an Untangled router. Every day, one of the Homes disconnects from wifi responding with "Hang on while I get connected to wifi". The only fix is to unplug and replug the device.

The devices seem to take turns doing this. Shortly after resetting one, another one disconnects. Only once did two of them do this at the same time.

Here's what I have tried to fix this issue with no success:

Factory reset both of Homes
Changed wifi SSID
Created new wifi network dedicated to 2.4GHZ and connected Homes to it
Tried same thing with 5GHZ
Assigned dedicated IP addresses to Homes inside my router
Fiddled with many settings on access point
Tried multiple wifi channels with less interference
Moved devices closer to router

I have officially ran out of ideas. As much as I like the Google ecosystem, if I can't resolve this, I will have to move to another one. So, any help would be much appreciated!

I don't have an answer for you. But, I just wanted to note that this started happening to me this week. I have seven minis throughout my house, and it seems to be happening on a couple of them. (Do they automatically download software updates?) Otherwise, nothing has changed in the last couple of days.

I have two google home and two nest mini and they all disconnect everyday from wifi. only way to get them back is to unplug and plug back in. what is the problem? CAX30 modem/router nearby tried everything in the first post and stll terrible.

I've come up with an unsatisfactory workaround. That is the Nest Mini is now plugged in through a timer socket. The power gets turned off and back on again to force the reset in the middle of the night.

This was happening to me quite a bit for a period of a couple of months. I think this was during the fall of 2020. After much frustration, the problem went away by itself (I don't know if the units did a firmware update during that time or not).

However, a little more than a month ago, I discovered that I had been overextending my Netgear Nighthawk Wifi (I have 4 teenagers, 6 or 7 minis, and 70+ devices with all of our things attached). From my questions on the Nighthawk groups, I realized that I had too many satellites for what they system was designed for. (Other things that were occuring was that Chromecast was constanting dropping during streaming).

I did some research on Wifi systems, and was intrigued with the Eero system that allowed more satellites and support for more devices. They had some deal that they would trade my nighthawk system (They gave me something for it, like $150).

I do have to say that since I went with this new Wifi Router - all the problems with the google minis and the chromecast have gone away.

I don't know anything about your wifi system, so I can't comment on that. But, what I might suggest you do is to bring one of your minis to a friends' house or your office or some other place - and install it on another network for a brief time. Then you can determine if it is a network issue or a google mini issue.

I realize that this is not a comment that you want, and it is a hassle. I had no idea that my network wifi was the issue - but I am happy that everything seems to have been resolved.

Both of those are great ideas. I have a couple of "fixes" in process now. Trying them now on their own guest SSID with no security.

I ended up fixing the issue by switching the room of the device with another device. I'm not 100% sure if that's what fixed it but it has been working since I did that.

Hi all and thanks for your interest.

I'm suspecting the issue is as a result of having too many devices connected to my router.

I still find that using a time switch to force a reboot overnight, prevents the inconvenience, however removing the timer and the fault recurrs on the first morning.

Going back to my router concern, I'm finding that my Sky Q (TV) set up now also behaves erratically. I have up to 25 devices on router.

Hey jjh4yb,

Sorry to hear the trouble is still occurring with the device. There is a chance it could be due to how many devices you have connected to your router. Some devices will take priority over others depending on their setup, which could leave other devices to lag behind, or lose connection. Do you mind me asking if you are using any Wi-Fi points? I am having the same issue with my Home device. But I only have 10 devices and rarely more than 2 in use at one time. Any other suggestions?

have you found any solution for your problem? I have the same problem with my pair of Google Nest Audio speakers. I have to unplug and plug in again the speakers every time, so that they get connected again. I barely have 10 devices connected to my router.

Hi Shahram,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let’s check this out. For confirmation, two of your Nest Audio’s are constantly disconnecting from your Wi-Fi, right? How often does it happen in a day? What is the exact message when it gets disconnected and you give command to it? We might need to look into your connection first since both are affected and move forward from there. I need you to do a sequential reboot by unplugging your router followed by your 2 Nest Audio’s. Plug them back in starting with your router. Restarting your phone might also help.

Hey there,

Thank you for trying. Let's now remove your Nest Audio from your Home app. On your Home page, tap the your Nest Audio and select the gear icon(settings) on the upper right corner, scroll down and select remove device. After removing, link it back in and play radio. Don't forget to try YouTube so that we can narrow it down.
