I have tried rebooting it, it works for some time but then stops again. Every time I ask it something it does light up, but doesn't follow through with anything. I've considered factory resetting it but I don't know if there is something wrong with the mic.

Yes, could you please try to do a Factory Data Reset on your device? Are there any improvements?

A factory reset will reset your Google Nest or Home speaker or display to its default factory settings.
Note: This action will clear your data from the device and can't be undone.
