Nest Audio doesnt respond to audio playback commands

Hi, I am really frustrated with my Nest Audio and Spotify premium - the Nest does not respond to 'pause' or 'next' to control the spotify stream (my music stream also keeps dropping which is another issue that is frustrating me). The entire functionality of voice in controlling music is non-operational. This works perfectly fine with YouTube. I have tried everything in the book, to reset the device, to unlink, offload, delete and reinstall Spotify - but to no avail. How is it possible such basic functionality is defective on the Nest? I have a nest mini which is cheaper and less 'powerful' and yet that works perfectly fine.
